2019 Campaign Announcement

2019 City-County Council Run Announcement

When Amazon chose Indianapolis as a finalist for a new HQ, our city became part of important conversations around the country and around the world. Many people are working hard to promote our region, but we have not put our best foot forward. Instead of seeing the dynamic city we are, observers see TV and newspapers focused on City/County Council coups, counter coups and sheriffs deputies escorting trusted employees out of the building.

We need to keep our focus on what’s important for our city’s future.

That is why I will run for City-County Council, District 7 in 2019 with one goal: to focus on proposals that move our city forward.

The City/County Council must create an agenda to move our city forward, listening to the needs of our citizens, responding to their priorities – and taking action.

This is not a new approach. During my first term, as an at-large member, I served as Vice President of the City/County Council and am proud of many things I accomplished, including:

· The stunning revitalization of Tarkington Park;

· Creation of the Indianapolis Pre-K Program;

· Overcoming a veto to pass our city’s smoke-free ordinance; and

· A Resolution to oppose the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Working together, across party lines to make Indianapolis shine in this defining moment must be our priority. During my Council term, I successfully worked with neighborhoods, business groups and members of both political parties. As a councillor, I will work to get back to that way of doing the peoples’ business
