COUNCIL PROPOSAL AIMS TO STUDY ENVIRONMENT

Indianapolis – District 7 Indianapolis City-County Councillor John Barth today introduced a proposal to create a year-long Commission to study the impact of climate change on the City and recommend any needed Council proposals to advance the priorities of the Thrive Indianapolis Plan. The proposal is co-sponsored by Councillors Adamson, Boots, Brown, Carlino, McCormick, and Potts.

“Clean air, water, and soil should not be luxuries – every resident of Indianapolis should expect a clean environment and establishing the Commission on Environmental Sustainability is an important step toward ensuring the Council is poised to take needed action,” said Barth.

The Commission will work to engage with residents of Indianapolis by holding the majority of its meetings out of the City-County Building and posting all materials online. A report will be generated with recommendations, and findings will be delivered to the full Council by December 2020.

The submission of this proposal fulfills a campaign promise by Councillor Barth to introduce a proposal to study the City’s response to climate change by the first day of Council business in 2020.
